I am directed to enclose copies of a

telegram and letter, which I have sent to Mrs. Evans, the

widow of the Chief Officer of the S.S. "Tai On", who lost

his life during the recent piractical attack on board that

vessel.

2.

I am to esk if you would be so good as to

furnish this Government with information as to the circum-

stances of Mrs. Evans, and the number and ages of her

children, If it should be found that she is in any

immediate need of assistance I am to say that this Govern-

ment would be glad to re-imburse the Government of India

to the extent of a sum not exceeding £8 a month, until

definite arrangements can be made.
